The fundamental goal of the fourth industrial revolution is to make manufacturing go beyond automation and optimization by making the overall production process more customer centric including faster and efficient logistics. This is where industry 4.0 comes into play. The smart customers of the future will want more options and a variety of products to choose from, which is why the production must adapt quickly to the evolving market dynamics. The fact that information is now so easily accessible at every stage of the customer journey, it is becoming even more imperative to make not just the product but also, the overall experience of the customer personalized as much as possible. Many organizations are now investing heavily in understanding and predicting consumer behavior. The modern customer's needs, wants and behaviors are constantly evolving even more so in this connected world with easier access to information and countless options to choose from. The impact of this transformation is going to be so immense that to consider it as a mere extension to the previous industrial revolution would be undermining its enormous impact, which is why it is being referred to as the fourth industrial revolution or industry 4.0. Now, the world is going through another technological revolution. From the first industrial revolution, which started in the late 1700s when production was mechanized through the use of water and steam power to the second using electric power for mass production and the third using electronics and information technology for production automation, the world has come a long way.
